On February 25, the government of Haryana lifted the suspension of internet services in several districts of the state. Internet services had been suspended in the state due to the ongoing farmers’ protest, aiming to maintain peace and harmony.

The government had suspended internet services in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, and Dabwali. The suspension was imposed on February 11 and continued in all districts, except for Dabwali, on February 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23, and 24.

‘Dilli Chalo’ lead to suspension of internet services

Farmers in northern India have united for the ‘Dilli Chalo’ movement, restarting the farmers’ protest demanding MSP and other rights.

No official order has been passed to continue the suspension of internet services. The official statement cited the reason for maintaining peace and public order for the earlier suspension. It stated, “to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order in the jurisdictions of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa, including Dabwali, districts in Haryana.”

Residents of those districts expressed relief at the removal of the suspension.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are demanding a legal guarantee of MSP and the waiving of farm loans to provide relief to farmers.

Since February 13, defiant farmers from Punjab, actively participating in the ongoing march, have set up camp at the strategic Shambhu and Khanauri points along the state’s border with Haryana. The impromptu settlement was necessitated when their procession was halted by security forces.

As per the announcement made by farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Friday, the agrarian protestors are determined to hold their ground at these two border points until February 29. It is at this juncture that they will deliberate and decide upon their subsequent course of action.

Notably, the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march, temporarily halted for two days after clashes at Khanauri resulted in a protester’s death and injuries to approximately 12 police personnel, has injected a heightened sense of urgency and resolve into the protesters’ stance.
