In a significant development, the Allahabad High Court has dismissed the appeal by the Gyanvapi Mosque committee, challenging the Varanasi district court’s decision allowing Hindu prayers in a cellar within the Gyanvapi mosque complex. Advocates and religious representatives have welcomed the decision as a victory for “Sanatana Dharma,” emphasizing the continuation of puja rituals at Vyas Tehkhana.

Advocates Laud Allahabad High Court’s Decision

Advocate Prabhash Pandey expressed satisfaction with the High Court’s decision, highlighting the dismissal of pleas filed by the Muslim side against the District Judge’s order. Pandey stated that this ruling ensures the ongoing puja will persist, with the District Magistrate maintaining control over the ‘tehkhana.’ He deemed it a “big victory for our Sanatana Dharma” and acknowledged the option for the Muslim side to seek a review.

Another advocate, Hari Shankar Jain, welcomed the Allahabad court’s decision, emphasizing that Hindus had been performing puja in the Vyas Tehkhana until 1993 when they were unlawfully stopped. He praised the court for maintaining the rights of Hindus to conduct religious rituals and expressed readiness to oppose any Supreme Court move by the Muslim side.

High Court Backs District Court’s Order

Advocate Subhash Nandan Chaturvedi highlighted that the Allahabad High Court recognized the historical occurrence of puja and religious rituals at the site. He pointed out that in 1993, without proper documentation or orders, these rituals were abruptly halted. Chaturvedi affirmed the High Court ruling in favor of the District Court’s order, dismissing objections raised by the Anjuman Intezamia’s (Masjid Committee).

Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side, mentioned that if the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee appeals to the Supreme Court, they are prepared to file their caveat. The ongoing puja at Vyas Tehkhana within the Gyanvapi complex is set to continue following the Allahabad High Court’s decision.

The High Court’s refusal to ban the puja signifies a crucial legal stance on religious practices within the Gyanvapi mosque complex, and the case may see further developments depending on potential Supreme Court appeals.
