Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s troubles are mounting as the Lok Sabha elections draw near. The Enforcement Directorate has issued the ninth summons to Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering probe related to irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 case. This time, the ED has summoned Kejriwal in a second money laundering case related to the Delhi Jal Board and has asked him to join the probe on March 21. Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate had sent summonses to Arvind Kejriwal eight times, all of which were ignored.
Arvind Kejriwal claims that the ED wants to arrest him
Arvind Kejriwal has previously been summoned by the ED; the central agency sent the first summons to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on November 2, 2023, but he did not appear. Subsequently, the agency sent summonses to him on November 21, January 3, January 18, February 2, February 19, February 26, and March 4. CM Kejriwal did not appear for any of the summonses and accused the central government of misusing the agency. The Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Chief Minister claim that the central agency, ED, wants to arrest him.
The court has instructed Kejriwal to respond to the ED’s summonses.
The Rouse Avenue court has instructed Kejriwal to respond to the ED summonses and comply with the law. The court also directed Kejriwal that as a person who takes an oath on the Constitution, he must obey the law.
Delhi Education Minister Atishi criticized the Centre.
Criticizing the central government, Atishi said that PM Modi is solely focused on imprisoning Arvind Kejriwal before the elections and preventing him from campaigning. This is evident from the fact that as soon as the court process began, he did not wait for its conclusion. Within hours, the ED summoned Kejriwal in another fabricated case. The details of the Jal Board’s case and the allegations are unknown. It’s unclear what is being investigated and whether it involves any wrongdoing. This summons seems to have been issued because perhaps Narendra Modi doubts whether he will be able to arrest Kejriwal in the excise case.”
