The Election Commission of India has revealed the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, set to unfold in seven phases starting from April 19. Alongside this announcement, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also unveiled the timetable for Assembly polls in four states: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Odisha.

Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections Timeline:

Lok Sabha Polls: Starting from April 19, spanning seven phases.

Assembly Polls:

Andhra Pradesh: May 13

Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim: April 19

Odisha: Across four phases from May 13 to June 1.

Bypolls: Simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections, bypolls for 26 Assembly seats will also take place.

Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim:

Polling Schedule: Voting is set to commence on April 19.

Previous Election Results:

In Arunachal Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in 2019, securing 41 out of 60 seats in the Assembly. Other parties like the Janata Dal (United), National People’s Party (NPP), Congress, and Independent candidates also gained seats.

In Sikkim, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) clinched 17 out of 32 seats in the Assembly in the 2019 elections, enabling them to form the government under Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) secured 15 seats.

Andhra Pradesh:

Polling Date: Scheduled for May 13.

Previous Election Outcome:

The ruling YSR Congress Party, led by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, secured a landslide victory in 2019, winning 151 out of 175 seats in the Assembly. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) managed to secure only 23 seats, while other parties like Congress and BJP had minimal impact.

Odisha:

Phased Elections: The elections in Odisha will be conducted across four phases spanning from May 13 to June 1.

Previous Election Results:

In the 2019 legislative assembly elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) emerged victorious with 113 seats out of 147, ensuring the party’s fifth consecutive term in power under Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 23 seats, followed by Congress with 9 seats. Additionally, a few seats were won by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and an independent candidate.
