According to the notification posted on Thursday, the social media sites will be blocked until July 30 in Bihar’s Darbhanga district due to communal clashes over hoisting of a religious flag.
It was because some anti-socials, through the medium of social media, were spreading some objectionable content among the public to incite some sort of reaction which would affect the peace and tranquility of the district. There were various rumors’ being spread and due to which a clash broke down among the public.

The order issued by the Home Department said, “Now, therefore, in the interest of maintenance of public order, the department hereby directs all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that any messages to or from any person or class of persons relating to any subject or pictorial content through social networking sites or application shall not be transmitted in Darbhanga district from 4 pm on July 27, 2023 till 4 pm on July 30, 2023,”
On Sunday, near Bazar Samiti Chowk in Darbhanga town the clash broke down among the public. It was reported by the police that the reason behind this was that some people hoisted a religious flag close to the worship place of another religious community.
The situation then led to stone pelting by the people from the two communities. They were soon brought under control by the police and the administration. Several among them were arrested.
JS Gangwar, the Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Headquarters said that the security has been risen up with the view of Muharram. He added that the efforts are made into finding out people who were involved in the provocative content spreading over social media through cyber-patrolling and social media surveillance has also been intensified.
