According to police, an army soldier was detained after reportedly killing his wife and children while they slept and tried to claim an accident, according to reports.

They claimed that Ram Prasad, the accused, committed the act early on Sunday morning and that the arrest was made after the post-mortem report revealed burn injuries and death by strangling.

The postmortem was carried out on Tuesday when the family members arrived, according to DCP (East) Amrita Duhan. According to the investigation, the mother and daughter were both strangled before being burned with gasoline, according to Duhan.

According to the officer, after questioning Ram Prasad on the basis of the report, he confessed to killing both his daughter Ridhima, 2, and wife Rukmeena, 25.

Ram Prasad, a resident of Sikkim, wed Rukmeena, a native of Nepal, in January 2020. He was assigned to Jodhpur in August of 2020. Duhan claimed that the two frequently argued.

He therefore devised a plot to murder his wife in order to get rid of her. In order to absolve himself of culpability, he also made the decision to kill his infant daughter, according to Duhan.

Around four in the morning, he allegedly first strangled his wife, then his daughter, while they slept in their bed. He then allegedly doused them in gasoline and set them ablaze to destroy any evidence.

After that, according to Duhan, he fled the house while stating that he had tried to save his wife and child from being burned in a fire started by a short circuit in the cooler.

Ram Prasad, who had been elevated from the position of “Naik” to “Clerk,” was reportedly scheduled to travel to Bengaluru for training on Monday, according to the police.

Based on circumstantial evidence, police and some army personnel had suspected Ram Prasad from the start.

On the basis of the allegation made by the subedar of his unit, police had already filed a case under Section 302 of the IPC against Ram Prasad.
