Prime Minister Modi keeps a close eye on the progress of the Railways, and the government has made improving passenger amenities a top priority. His contributions were instrumental in the redesign of these stations, assuring an effortless and relaxing experience for passengers.
Under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, 508 of the 1,309 stations have been picked for the first phase of renovations. These stations are located in the following Ten Indian States: Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu. The budget for the ongoing construction of 24 stations in the aforementioned states is 11,136 crore rupees.
Some of the 24 stations that are currently being fixed up have been given a lot of money. The famous Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja Terminus, which is a UNESCO world heritage place, will be fixed up with 1,813 crore. In the same way, Gujarat’s Surat station is getting a makeover that will cost 980 crore, and Tamil Nadu’s Chennai Egmore station is expected to cost Rs. 842 crore to build.
Some of these stations have been hard to update because they are so old. About 25% to 30% of the stations in the plan are having trouble with the process of redevelopment. For example, Kerala’s Ernakulam station, which has a budget of 445 crore, is restricted in how much it can grow because there are buildings on both sides of the tracks. The Sabarmati station in Gujarat, which is expected to cost 335 crore, needs connections to more than one type of transport because it is a key part of the upcoming bullet train project.
As an option to traditional foot over bridges, the plan for redevelopment suggests making the rooftop plazas bigger so that people can have a better time. These large, comfortable waiting rooms will give people a place to rest and get ready for their trains while they wait.
