On the Friday, 25th August, Indian Navy signed a very important contract with Hindustan Shipyard Limited  in Vishakhapatnam. According to this contract HSL will be responsible for providing 5 fleet Support ships to Indian Navy.

The contract was signed between the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dinesh Kumar and chairman of Hindustan Shipyard limited Retd Commodore Hemant Khatri.

The Navy has signed the contract for Rs 19,000 crores.

This move will be a major achievement towards achieving self- reliant India and fulfill the goals of AtmaNirbhar Bharat.

The president of India has recently launched INS Vindhyagiri which was also indigenously made. These ships will also be designed and made in India by HSL.

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dinesh Kumar said that this is the flag bearer of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. This is the 4th project approved by Cabinet Committee on Security.

 

According to MD of HSL, the 2 tankers India had before were both imported, and during that time Indian navy decided to indigenously make these tankers. He added  that these 5 ships will be build with advanced technology.

Each of these 5 fleet Support ship will have the capacity to carry 25,000 ton of cargo. These ships will also improve security in the waters and maintain a strong presence with their advance technology.

Navy’s Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition (CWP&A) Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmukh said that the making of these 5 ships will provide employment worth 170 lakh man-days.

According to reports, HSL is expected to deliver these 5 shipes in eight years. These ships will weigh 45,000 tonnes each which will be the first of their kind to be built in India.
