A clash erupted in JNU between ABVP and Left backed students group over the selection of election committee members> The clash broke out at the School of Languages on the night of February 29. The physical clash ended up injuring several students.
ABVP blamed Leftist groups
ABVP accused the left backed group saying that the the brutal attack on students involved the use of sharp objects by Leftist. ABVP’s post on JNU read “ABVP JNU condemns this brutal attack on students and will always stand for rights of students. Common Students who came to attend SL School GBM at School of Languages were brutally attacked with sharp objects by LEFTIST GOONS. Just because they were asking for a fair chance to participate and vote in the school GBM. Some students faced severe injuries.”

Umesh Chandra, ABVP President, stated on Friday the clash resulted in causing injuries to 6 students. The fight was started by AISA. He further said that the other side was constantly hitting them and he hit back in self-defence as the security people were not intervening.
All Indian Student Association blamed ABVP
The left wing students in turn also blamed ABVP for creating a ruckus in the college and disrupting the selection process of the election committee.
According to media reports, the All Indian Student Association (AISA) said that on the final day of the General Body Meeting (GBM) at the School of Languages, a fresh bout of violence unfolded, orchestrated by ABVP members. Their initial attempt to disrupt the election committee’s selection process escalated into physical violence against students after facing resistance from JNU students. ABVP members were observed wielding rods, specifically targeting and indiscriminately beating fellow students.
Last night (29.02.24), at the end of the GBM, the ABVP goons resorted to violence.
Anwesha Roy, an SL student and AISA activist, was surrounded and beaten up by ABVP goons.

Further accusing AVBP, AISA said that throughout the day, ABVP troublemakers persistently disrupted the GBM proceedings. They specifically targeted Muslim students, opposing any proposal made by them for the upcoming election committee. Moreover, they tainted the atmosphere of the school’s GBM premises by issuing threats, using sexist and casteist slurs against fellow students.
AISA further stated that two senior Ph.D. scholars and a senior AISA activists were also assaulted by ABVP.
Formal Complaint
Delhi police received formal complaint from both the sides and are taking further necessary actions on the matter.
