It was a few months back when the country was able to move freely just after Corona Virus, and recently a new virus is being reported in Karnataka. The 1st case of Zika virus was found in a 5 year old girl from Raichur, Karnataka.
This was informed by the State health minister K Sudhakar, he further added that the government is now taking necessary measures and precautions. While informing the masses he said, “This is the first case in the state and the government is monitoring the situation very carefully. Our department is well prepared to handle it.” “We have got a lab report from Pune about the confirmed case of Zika virus. On December 5, it was processed and reported on December 8. Three specimens were sent out of which two were negative and one was positive, which is a five-year-old girl. We are keeping a vigil.”
After the dead of 5 year old girl due to the virus, the state health minister said, “Further noting that no other fresh cases of Zika virus have been found so far in the state and there is no need for any worry, the minister said that the government was monitoring the situation with caution.”
Zika Virus in India :
This was the 1st confirmed case of Zika virus in Karnataka, and according to K Shudhakar the virus was also once detected in Maharashtra, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh. The case in Karnataka came in to light when the serum was tested for Dengue and Chikungunya test. He further said that instructins have been circulated in Raichur and the neighboring places to report if any similar cases found.
What is Zika Virus?
Now that we know that the country reported its 1st case of Zika virus, what exactly is this virus and how does it work?
The Zika virus disease is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, which is also known to transmit infections like Dengue and Chikungunya. The virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Aedes mosquitoes usually bite during the day, peaking during early morning and late afternoon or evening. For the majority of people, Zika virus infection is not a serious issue. But it can be very dangerous among pregnant women, especially for foetuses.
