Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has finally agreed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the ongoing investigation regarding Delhi Excise Police.
The CM said that he was ready to answer the questions of Ed after March 12 through video conferencing.
Arvind Kejriwal has until now skipped 8 summons by ED calling them Illegal and motivated.
Kejriwal reiterated his stance on the summonses being “illegal” but confirmed his readiness to respond to the probe agency’s inquiries, according to the sources. The Delhi Chief Minister is also scheduled to appear before a city court on March 16, where the court has demanded his personal presence in a complaint case filed by the Enforcement Directorate concerning his avoidance of summons.
ED summons Kejriwal
The Enforcement Directorate had issued an eighth summons to Kejriwal on February 27, pertaining to a money laundering investigation linked to discrepancies in the Delhi excise policy 2021-22 case. The summons instructed him to join the investigation on March 4. This latest summons followed Kejriwal’s non-compliance with the seventh summons on February 26.
Having previously skipped summons on various dates, Kejriwal consistently refers to them as “illegal and politically motivated.” The Enforcement Directorate aims to record Kejriwal’s statement in the case, covering aspects such as the formulation of the excise policy, pre-finalization meetings, and allegations of bribery.
In response to the seventh summons, the AAP, in an official statement, labeled it as “illegal,” urging the Enforcement Directorate to halt further summonses and await the court’s decision, as the probe agency had already taken the matter to court.
On February 3, a day after Kejriwal ignored the fifth summons, the Enforcement Directorate approached a Delhi court against him for “non-compliance with the summons.
