In a ceremony held at the Vidhan Bhavan BJP office in Mumbai on Tuesday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended felicitations to the recently elected Rajya Sabha members from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The event was attended by key party leaders, including BJP State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil, and BJP Mumbai President Ashish Shelar.

Unopposed Victory for BJP Nominees

The BJP fielded three candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra: Ashok Chavan, Medha Kulkarni, and Ajit Gopchade. Impressively, all three nominees secured victory unopposed during the electoral process held on Tuesday.

Congratulatory Gesture for Ashok Chavan

Among the felicitated MPs was Ashok Chavan, a prominent figure who had recently switched allegiance from the Congress party to the BJP. The Deputy Chief Minister congratulated Chavan and the other victorious candidates during the event at the BJP office.

Competing Candidates Across Parties

A total of six candidates contested the Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra, representing various political parties. Apart from the three BJP nominees, candidates from Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the opposition Congress party were also in the fray.

Diverse Party Representation

Shiv Sena, in its bid for representation in the upper house, fielded former Lok Sabha MP Milind Deora, while the NCP nominated Praful Patel. The opposition Congress party presented Chandrakant Handore as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha.

Upcoming Rajya Sabha Elections

The Election Commission has slated the Rajya Sabha elections for 15 states on February 27, with the results expected to be declared on the same day. This move by the ECI comes as part of the scheduled biennial Rajya Sabha polls for 56 seats, as the tenure of the incumbents is set to conclude in April.
