Mira-Bhayandar Fire: In a tragic incident, a major fire engulfed the densely populated Azad Nagar area of Bhayandar East in Maharashtra’s Thane district, claiming one life and leaving several injured in the early hours of Wednesday. The fire, which started around 4.30 am, rapidly spread through the narrow alleys, consuming numerous huts and shops in its path.

Fire Originating from Dumped Waste
Deputy Commissioner of Police Prakash Gaikwad revealed that the fire originated from waste dumped nearby. “One person has died, 2 Mahanagar Palika Fire Brigade personnel and other 2-3 people have suffered injuries,” he reported to ANI.
Swift Response with 24 Fire Tenders
Mira Road Fire Brigade promptly deployed a total of 24 fire tenders to combat the fierce flames raging through the slum. Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) Commissioner Sanjay Katkar, overseeing the rescue and relief efforts, expressed hope that the fire would be brought under control within the next hour.
Residents Flee as Flames Engulf Homes
As the blaze erupted, occupants of huts and other residents in the vicinity rushed out of their homes. According to Katkar, the slum colony houses many commercial establishments, intensifying the impact of the fire.
Cause of Azad Nagar Fire Unknown
While firefighting efforts are underway, the cause of the fire in Azad Nagar remains unknown at this time.

This tragic incident follows a fire on Monday evening in a two-storey commercial center in Santacruz suburb, Mumbai, where a 19-year-old woman suffered from smoke inhalation. The woman, initially taken to Cooper Hospital, discharged against medical advice after treatment. The recent fires highlight the urgency of enhancing fire safety measures in densely populated urban areas.
