On Wednesday morning, people of all religions prayed for India to reach a historic milestone in space exploration. If successful, India will be the world’s first country to land on the Moon’s South Pole—a difficult surface. Russia’s most recent attempt, with the Luna-25, failed barely 12 hours before the targeted landing time.

People are undertaking specific rituals, prayers, and celebrations from Rishikesh to the United States to appeal for blessings for the success of Chandrayaan-3. Religious ceremonies of all faiths are being held across India to seek blessings for the successful completion of the historic moon mission.

Across Indian states, people are praying

People in Madhya Pradesh gathered at Ujjain’s Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple to perform a special ceremony called ‘Bhasma Aarti’ to honour the successful arrival of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s south pole.

People gathered in Bhubaneswar, Varanasi, and Prayagraj to undertake a rite known as ‘havan’ and pray for the safe landing of Chandrayaan-3.

Similarly, people gathered at the Hanuman temple in Aliganj, Uttar Pradesh, to perform an aarti, a traditional rite involving lights and prayers. Many devotees participated in this aarti and prayed sincerely for Chandrayaan 3 to succeed.

Prayers are being offered all across the world.

In the US, Indian Americans have turned to religious practises such as ‘havan’ (fire ritual) and ‘Abhishekam’ to pray for the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon.

A ‘havan’ was performed by members of the Indian diaspora in a temple in Virginia, US.

In Uxbridge, London, Indian students and researchers held a special prayer at the Adya Shakti Mataji Temple to offer prayers for the safe arrival of the Chandrayaan-3.
