Northern parts of China, including Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei province have experienced the remnants of the Doksuri Typhoon. The flood caused the death of at least 20 people.
This week, the leftovers caused significant flooding and devastation, forcing almost a million people to flee their homes in Beijing and neighboring Hebei province.

On Wednesday, the flood’s epicenter relocated to neighboring Hebei province.
According to the Beijing Meteorological Bureau, the worst-affected area of the city received 29.3 inches (74.4 cm) of rain from Saturday to Wednesday.

“The maximum (amount) of rainfall recorded during this storm, which was 744.8 millimeters, occurred at the Wangjiayuan Reservoir in Changping,” the service stated, adding that the previous highest volume was 609 millimeters in 1891. After Typhoon Doksuri left rain and flooding in Beijing, rescue workers used a boat to evacuate flood-affected households.

President Xi Jinping appealed on Tuesday for “every effort” to be made to rescue anyone “lost or trapped” by the storm. (Storm Doksuri, a former super typhoon that battered the Philippines, raced northwards over China after hitting the southern Fujian province last week.
