According to a top official, the Punjab Police arrested two different cross-border smuggling rings and recovered 77.8 kg of heroin in Ferozepur in one of the year’s largest drug seizures.
Three pistols were also confiscated from the apprehended suspects, said Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav in a statement issued here.

Both operations were carried out by Ferozepur police’s Counter Intelligence Wing.
According to Yadav, the police apprehended two individuals on their motorcycle after receiving reliable information about a major heroin consignment being handled.
Gagga Gill alias Gagan alias Kali of Ferozepur’s Bare Ke village and Veer Singh alias Veeru of Fazilka’s Muhar Sona village have been identified as the arrested suspects.
The officers seized 41.8 kilograms of heroin, two 9 mm handguns, four magazines, and 100 cartridges, as well as one. 30-bore Zigana with two magazines and 15 cartridges.
In Fazilka, a complaint was filed against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act, according to Yadav.
After seizing 36 kg of heroin, police teams detained Jasbhinder Singh alias Bhinda and Jagdeep Singh alias Bhuchar, both from Deep Singh Wala village in Faridkot. When they were arrested, they were riding their motorcycle after recovering the consignment.
According to Yadav, a second case was filed against them at the Fazilka police station.
“These modules were actively involved in trans-border and inter-state drug smuggling in Punjab in a big way,” he claimed.
Police teams are probing backward and forward links in both incidents to determine the involvement of other people involved, including the Pakistan-based person who provided the consignments, according to Special Director General of Police (Internal Security) RN Dhoke.
More arrests are expected in the following days, according to him.
