Chandrayaan-3, India’s ambitious lunar mission, is scheduled to execute the fifth and ultimate Earth-bound orbit-raising maneuver on Tuesday as it enters its final phase before departing Earth for the Moon.
Following this crucial maneuver, the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has affirmed that the spaceship will position itself for lunar insertion.

Chandrayaan-3, which was launched on July 14, has been progressively increasing its orbit around the Earth in preparation for its final launch toward the moon. Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM-3) successfully launched the spacecraft into an elliptical parking orbit of 36,500 km x 170 km.
The spacecraft will transition to an Earth-to-Moon trajectory during the fifth orbit-raising maneuver, expected to occur between 2 and 3 pm IST today.
Chandrayaan-3 will ultimately be pulled into lunar orbit by the Moon’s gravity, establishing the stage for the succeeding phase of this historic mission.
The mission of Chandrayaan-3 extends beyond merely reaching the Moon. It intends to conduct experiments to investigate the lunar environment, including its history, geology, and resource potential. The spacecraft consists of an Isro-developed lander and rover intended to land safely on the lunar surface, collect data, and execute a series of scientific experiments.
On August 23, the Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover are scheduled to land near the South Polar Region. This mission succeeds Chandrayaan-2, which suffered a last-minute malfunction that caused the Lander to collapse upon entering lunar orbit.
By the first week of August, Chandrayaan-3 would have completed five or six orbits around the Moon and have entered the innermost orbit. Then, an additional ten days will be required to pinpoint the precise landing site on the Moon.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission represents a major milestone for Isro’s plans to expand into interplanetary exploration in the future. As the rest of the world waits breathlessly, India has made an exciting breakthrough in its exploration of the Moon.
