At a farmers’ rally in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, Rahul Gandhi, along with leaders from NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT), vowed to prioritize farmers’ welfare if their coalition, the INDIA Alliance, wins power. Gandhi stressed their commitment to crafting policies to support farmers, including exempting them from GST and revamping crop insurance.
“The INDIA Alliance government will be the voice of farmers and work to protect their interests,” Gandhi declared, highlighting their intention to keep communication open with farmers.
Gandhi outlined key promises, including loan waivers, improving crop insurance, ensuring fair crop prices, and exploring exemptions for agriculture from GST.

He also reiterated the Congress’ commitment to implementing the minimum support price (MSP) as recommended by the Swaminathan committee report, aiming to address farmers’ economic security.
Critiquing the government’s policies, Gandhi criticized the waiver of industrialists’ debts and highlighted the disparity in financial aid between the rich and farmers. He emphasized the importance of protecting both soldiers and farmers, highlighting their role in the nation’s progress.
Sharad Pawar of NCP (SP) accused the central government of neglecting farmers, leading to their economic distress and suicides. He urged collective action to defeat what he termed as an anti-farmer administration.
Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT) expressed solidarity with Gandhi’s cause, stating that their coalition, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), stands united for the people’s interests.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress’s general secretary, announced plans for a commission to assess loan waivers if their coalition comes to power. He emphasized the need for a farmer-friendly crop insurance scheme and pledged to amend the GST Act to exclude agricultural items.
In conclusion, the INDIA Alliance leaders assured farmers of their unwavering support, promising to prioritize their needs over corporate interests if they win in the upcoming elections.
