BJP on Saturday released the first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in which it announced the name of Pawan Singh, a popular Bhojpuri singer and actor.
Singh is one of the most popular Bhojpuri star with a long list of successful songs popular in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and UP. His famous tracks include “Lollypop Lageli”, “Raja Ji” etc. BJP announced his name to fight from West Bengal’s Asansol. The constituency of Asansol lies on the border of W. Bengal and Bihar.
On Sunday, 3rd March, Pawan Singh through social media platform “x” announced that he will not be contesting elections from Asansol. Although he expressed gratitude to BJP for choosing him, but due to some unknown reason would not be fighting the elections.
JPNadda— Pawan Singh (@PawanSingh909) March 3, 2024
TMC celebrates Pawan Singh withdrawal
Sagarika Ghosh from TMC reasoned Singh withdrawal to the backlash he faced after his name was announced. The Bjopuri star was criticized for after his name was announced by calling him “sexist and misogynist” commenting on his work.
Breaking news. @AITCofficial impact! @BJP4India Asansol candidate withdraws after huge backlash on the candidate's sexist misogynist videos. The @BJP4India's "nari shakti" call in Bengal now lies in tatters, revealed for what it is–hollow & meaningless. https://t.co/xx0PO4rChp

Singh’s withdrawal has made BJP a topic for laughter as BJP proudly announced Singh’s name on Saturday and on Sunday Pawan Singh himself withdrew not citing specific reason. It also raised certain questions about communication gaps between BJP and Singh. Did Singh not inform BJP about his unwillingness to contest election?
