The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has entrusted Madhavi Latha with the challenge of contesting against Asaduddin Owaisi on his home ground in Hyderabad. More details about this decision are as follows:
On Saturday, 2nd March, the BJP released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, featuring the names of 195 candidates. This list includes both retained popular political figures and new faces, while also excluding some prominent names. Notably, among the first-timers entering the political arena in these upcoming polls is Madhavi Latha
Madhavi Latha and Owaisi
The BJP has placed its trust in Madhavi Latha to challenge the political giant Asaduddin Owaisi. Asaduddin Owaisi has consistently won the Hyderabad constituency in the past four elections. Hyderabad is considered the stronghold of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), particularly the Owaisi family.
Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, Asaduddin Owaisi’s father, was elected from Hyderabad in 1984, and since then, the seat has been held by the Owaisi family for over 40 years. One reason for this is the considerable Muslim population in the city.
Madhavi Latha
Latha is the Chairperson of Virinchi Hospitals and the founder of Lopamudra Charitable Trust and LathaMa Foundation. In addition to being a Bharatnatyam dancer and a one-time NCC cadet, she has dedicated a significant part of her life to social work in the sectors of health and education. Over the past few years, Latha has actively worked on the ground, building strong relationships with the people of Hyderabad.
Despite lacking prior experience in electoral politics, she is venturing into her first election. Given the popularity of Owaisi in Hyderabad and the strong support from the Muslim community, the BJP made a bold decision in selecting a newcomer. Madhavi has been actively involved with groups of Muslim women in the old Hyderabad city.
Madhavi Latha targeting Owaisi
In an interview given to ANI, Madhavi Latha said that the situation of OLD city has been horrible as people are not getting basic facilities. Targeting Owaisi she said that the amount of work which should have been done over the past 40 years has not been done.
She said “There is no cleanliness and education. Children in Madrasas are not getting food. Temples and Hindu homes are being occupied illegally. Muslim children are uneducated. There is child labour… They have no education or future… They have only one thing to do, riot. and those who are making this happen are taking advantage of it.”
