In the recent years India has witnessed a lot of changes regarding the name of famous cities across the country, be it be Allahabad to PrayagRaj and many more. And according to the recent reports, Meerut one of the oldest and the city full of heritage is also in the line to be renamed.
According to the reports, The Hindu Mahasabha has made it clear that they are willing and are fully convince in order to rename the city after late NathuRam Godse once they win the upcoming Mayor’s election in the city. Everyone of us know that NathuRam Godse is the killer of Mahatma Gandhi, who killed him on 30th January 1948, but something which majority of us are not aware of is that he was also an active member of Hindhu Mahasabha and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) member.
The main motive of the Sabha is presently to rename and change the Islamic names of the cities and other areas in the state and rename them wih the name of great Hindu men. The Mahasabha also released their manifesto which comprised of the fact that their first priority is to rename the Islamic name of the cities in order to make it a fully Hindu country and 2nd priority is to protect the “Gau mata”.
Further talking about it, the members of the party said that Parties such as BJP and ShivSena which claim to be “Hindu oriented parties” are slightly moving from their main aim and their motive, here the Hindu Mahasabha said that once the Sabha gets good no. of votes and wins the power in the upcoming mayor’s election they would defiantly rename Meerut as NathuRam Godse Nagar and also rename other cities with the name of other Hindu Men, which is said by the National vice president of Hindu Mahasabha Pandit Ashok Sharma. The Vice president also made it clear that once the party seek good no. of votes they will try to stop the Muslim and Islamic politics from the country.
This is not the first time that the issue of renaming Meerut name after Godse has surfaced. In 2019, the Hindu Mahasabha had filed a formal requested with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to change the name of Meerut to ‘Pandit Nathuram Godse Nagar’. However, the request was bluntly rejected by the UP government. “There is no room to even consider such a request. We had got the complaint in February this year by Hindu Mahasabha members and had replied that the name change will not be considered. However, as the complaint still shows our answer as pending, I have sent a fresh reply informing them that the name of Meerut will remain unchanged,” said Meerut District Magistrate Anil Dhingra.What do you think? will the government choose to rename the city after NathuRam Godse?
