PM Modi inaugurated a slew of projects amounting to over Rs 4000 crore in Kochi, Kerala, showcasing the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure in coastal cities. The key projects unveiled include the New Dry Dock (NDD) at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), the International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) of CSL, and the LPG Import Terminal of Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Puthuvypeen, Kochi.

Grand Welcome and Temple Visits
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome from the people of Kerala, PM Modi conveyed his joy at the reception in Kochi. During his inaugural address, he also shared his fortune in offering prayers at the Guruvayur Temple in Thrissur, emphasizing the spiritual significance of his visit.
Kochi Poised to Become Ship Building Hub
Highlighting the significance of the infrastructure initiatives, PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the capacity of coastal cities like Kochi. He boldly declared Kochi as the next ship building hub of the nation, foreseeing its growth in tandem with India’s rising prominence in global trade.
Strengthening Maritime Power
PM Modi underscored the ongoing efforts to strengthen India’s maritime power, emphasizing initiatives like the Sagarmala Pariyojana. He stated, “Today when India is becoming the centre of global trade, then we are increasing our sea power. Soon we will see Kochi growing to be on the epitome of this.”
Boosting Cochin Shipyard’s Capacity
Drawing attention to the inaugurated infrastructure, the Prime Minister highlighted the significant additions to Cochin Shipyard’s capabilities. “Today the country has its biggest Dry Dock (NDD). Besides this, infrastructures of ship-building, ship repairing, and LPG Import Terminal have also been inaugurated,” he said, projecting a manifold increase in the shipyard’s capacity.
Temple Visits and Cultural Engagement
During his two-day visit to Kerala, PM Modi participated in various cultural and religious events. He attended the wedding of actor and BJP leader Suresh Gopi’s daughter, showcasing his cultural engagement in the state. The Prime Minister also visited the Triprayar Sree Ramaswamy Temple in Thrissur, another significant religious site in Kerala.
Warm Welcome and Grand Roadshow
PM Modi’s visit commenced with a warm welcome at the Cochin International Airport in Nedumbassery, where he was received by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, MoS V Muraleedharan, and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar. The visit included a grand roadshow in Kochi, attended by thousands of supporters, reiterating the Prime Minister’s connection with the people.
Second Visit in Two Weeks
This marks PM Modi’s second visit to Kerala in two weeks, demonstrating the government’s focus on the state’s development and growth. The Prime Minister’s engagements in Kerala reflect a comprehensive approach, blending infrastructure development, cultural engagement, and strengthening regional ties.
