PM Modi, who has been in Gujarat for two days. On the first day of his tour, Thursday, the prime minister opened a new international airport near the city of Rajkot and a few other development projects. Later, he spoke to a group in the city of Rajkot. A government release said that the opening programme for “Semicon India 2023” will feature business chances in India’s semiconductor sector through an informative presentation and a stimulating panel discussion led by industry.
It was said that the goal of the event was to speed up the growth of the semiconductor industry through networking, technology demos, and good business opportunities. During the three-day conference, which ends on July 30, experts from all over the world in the fields of semiconductor chip, display fab, chip design, and chip assembly will come together to share their knowledge and ideas about new possibilities in India.
Foxconn, Micron, AMD, IBM, Marvell, Vedanta, LAM Research, NXP Semiconductors, ST Microelectronics, Grantwood Technologies, Infineon Technologies, Applied Materials, and other big names in the field will be there, according to the press statement.
The statement said that, with a strong emphasis on innovation, participation, and expansion, this event is crucial for influencing the future of the semiconductor industry in India and Gujarat.
Before the main event began on Friday, July 25, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated a six-day exhibition. The exhibition highlights the intricate manufacturing process of semiconductors and provides an overview of the industry-driving technologies and innovations.
Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Railways and Communication Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, and Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar are present in the event on behalf of the Union government on Friday.
According to a government release, the event will include participation from the leaders of prominent semiconductor industries, who will deliver a presentation on investment opportunities in the Indian semiconductor industry. Notably, the Gujarat government sealed Rs 22,500 crore memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Micron Technology to establish an Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility in the state. During Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to the United States, US President Joe Biden announced that Micron Technology Inc. will establish a state-of-the-art semiconductor facility in India.
