Tony Ganios, the American actor renowned for his portrayal of fan-favorite Meat in Bob Clark’s ‘Porky,’ breathed his last on February 18 after undergoing surgery at a New York hospital, according to a report by Variety on Tuesday evening.

He was 64.

Tony Ganios fiancee took to X to share the devastating news, posting a picture of the couple holding hands. The emotional post read, “I love you so much, my love. I’m broken.”

A subsequent tweet featured a photo of Tony Ganios with a caption that read,” The last words we said to each other were, ‘I love you.’ Love is an understatement. You are everything to me. My heart, my soul and my best friend.”

A Journey in the Limelight

Known for his roles in 1980s teen comedies and action films, Tony Ganios gained recognition for portraying rough, muscular characters. His debut was in Kaufman’s ‘The Wanderers,’ where he played Perry, a Bronx Italian-American street roughneck, in the 1963 film based on Richard Price’s novel.

Iconic Role in ‘Porky’s’

However, his most notable role was as Meat in the 1981 comedy series ‘Porky’s.’ The film, revolving around a group of high school friends seeking revenge on a nightclub owner named Porky, despite criticism, became the sixth highest-grossing film of 1982, spawning two sequels.

Legacy Beyond ‘Porky’s’

Tony Ganios film credits also include ‘Porky’s II: The Next Day’ (1983) and ‘Die Hard 2’ (1990). After working on ‘Rising Sun,’ he semi-retired from acting, making brief cameos in three films between 1991 and 1993.

Candid Reflections on Acting Return

In a 2015 interview with Cult Faction, Tony Ganios shared why he chose to return to acting briefly, stating, “While I did miss acting, I didn’t miss the entertainment industry or most of the people in it. Few of my friends and fans realized how difficult it would be for me to get back into an industry where I was hardly successful in the first place.”

Born in Brooklyn, Tony Ganios is survived by his fiancee, Amanda. His contributions to the entertainment industry, especially through the iconic ‘Porky’s,’ have left a lasting impact on fans and colleagues alike.
