Amit Shah’s Heartfelt Condolences

In a condolence post on Wednesday, Amit Shah shared, “Pained to know that Shri Ameen Sayani Ji the voice of the radio is no more. Sayani Ji leaves a void behind that will be difficult to fill. His golden legacy makes him immortal. My sincerest condolences to his near and dear ones and millions of admirers. Om Shanti.”

Details of Sayani’s Passing

Sayani’s son, Rajil Sayani, confirmed that the iconic radio presenter suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night. He was rushed to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, where despite the doctors’ efforts, he couldn’t be saved and was declared dead.

“The doctors at the hospital attended him but couldn’t save him, and he was declared dead,” Rajil shared. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, allowing time for relatives to reach Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to Ameen Sayani, recognizing his significant contribution to Indian broadcasting. He wrote, “Shri Ameen Sayani Ji’s golden voice on the airwaves had a charm and warmth that endeared him to people across generations. Through his work, he played an important role in revolutionising Indian broadcasting and nurtured a very special bond with his listeners. Saddened by his passing away. Condolences to his family, admirers and all radio lovers. May his soul rest in peace.”

Ameen Sayani’s Remarkable Career

Born on December 21, 1932, in Mumbai, Ameen Sayani gained fame for his melodic voice and captivating style. Transitioning from an English-language broadcaster to Hindi, he became widely known for the popular radio show ‘Binaca Geetmala.’

Sayani, with his distinctive introduction – “Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon” – became an iconic figure in Indian radio. Hosting over 54,000 radio programs and voicing nearly 19,000 jingles since 1951, he played a pivotal role in revolutionizing Indian broadcasting.

Legacy and Impact

Sayani’s ‘Binaca Geetmala’ became a national phenomenon, making radio more accessible in India. His voice, featured in movies like ‘Bhoot Bungla,’ ‘Teen Devian,’ ‘Boxer,’ and ‘Qatl,’ will be remembered for generations to come.
