Homage to the Sarangi Maestro
Founded by the eminent artist, Ustad Nasir Khan, and his son, Nabeel Khan, Sarangi Cultural Academy paid tribute to the legendary Sarangi maestro Padma Bhushan Ustad Sabri Khan Sahab.
Enchanting Performances Unfold
The event unfolded on Thursday, featuring captivating performances by various artists, with Nabeel Khan leading the way on the Sarangi, accompanied by Pranshu Chaturlal on Tabla.
The Queen of Indian Classical Instruments
Nabeel Khan commenced the evening with an insightful introduction to the Sarangi, often referred to as the “queen” of Indian Classical instruments. He delved into its rich history and distinctive characteristics before enthralling the audience with the soul-stirring ‘Maru Bihag’ and compositions by Ustad Sabri Khan.
A Musical Journey in the Desert: ‘The Arrival of Sultan’
The evening took a personal turn as Nabeel Khan shared his original composition, ‘The Arrival of Sultan,’ inspired by his experiences in the desert. The performance concluded with the iconic ‘Mast Qalandar,’ leaving the audience in awe.
Flute Enchantment by Pt. Rajendra Prasanna
The second segment of the festival featured a mesmerizing flute recital by Pt. Rajendra Prasanna, accompanied by Abhishek Mishra. Pt. Rajendra Prasanna’s rendition of Raag Puriya Kalyan showcased his mastery over the flute, incorporating famous compositions and exercises, culminating in a thumri rendition in Raag Khammaj.
