India is the 7th largest country in the world surrounding 75000 km of of its border by water. A major part of the nation is surrounded by water therefore it becomes crucial to secure the borders well. India in its history already witnessed the entry of Foreign tribes from the sea. Initially after the Independence, the responsibility of securing the Nation was in the hands of the Indian Navy itself. But after fighting two wars with the neighboring country, the need to make a separate force that looks towards security of the sea borders was felt. Therefore Indian Coast Guard was established on 1st February 1977, by the Defence Ministry of India. The force was built so that there is no pressure built on the Indian Navy and they can work more efficiently. India’s economy was adversely affected by the smuggling through waterways.
