Friday, in a telephone conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and
Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the Ukraine conflict and the recent
Wagner mutiny.
Prime Minister Modi had expressed support for what the Kremlin described
as the Russian leadership’s decisive response to the Wagner mercenary group’s

Less than a week has passed since the Russian leadership thwarted a
significant coup d’état led by Yevgeny Prigozhin’s private mercenary army
Wagner Group. The telephone conversation between the two heads of state occurs
shortly after.
The private mercenary army conquered two key cities in southern Russia but halted its march on Moscow after the Kremlin reached an agreement with
Prigozhin with the assistance of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
