After extensive questioning in connection with a
money laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate took into custody Tamil Nadu
minister V Senthil Balaji. Balaji was transport minister in the AIADMK-led
government from 2011 to 2015, before he switched to the DMK, and on Tuesday, ED
agents searched his home and questioned him in connection with a case
concerning claims from that time. The decision came months after the Supreme
Court approved a police and ED investigate into a cash-for-jobs fraud he
claimed to have committed.

In the midst of rumours regarding Balaji’s custody,
the minister was committed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a government
hospital in Chennai after complaining of chest pain. State minister PK Sekar
Babu claimed there were signs Balaji had been ‘tortured’ as the high drama
unfolded outside the hospital as the DMK leader moaned in suffering.
“He is in the intensive care unit. He was in a
state of unconsciousness and did not respond to his name being called. Babu
told reporters, “He is under observation… there is a swelling near his
ear, and his electrocardiogram (ECG) shows variations… these are symptoms of
torture.” Hours after he was confined to the ICU,
the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed to Omandurar Government Medical
College.
The
BJP calls it “drama.”
It is Balaji’s responsibility to cooperate with the
law enforcement agency, according to Narayanan Thirupathy, deputy president of
the BJP in Tamil Nadu. He called the incident a “complete drama” by
the ruling DMK.

from this. According to what Thirupathy told ANI, “I demand CM MK Stalin
to immediately dismiss Senthil Balaji from his ministry and ask him to
cooperate with the investigation.
