As water accumulated up in low-lying areas and on roads in Delhi on Wednesday morning, traffic problems were possible. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that mild to severe thunderstorms and rainfall were likely to continue throughout the day.

The IMD put out a yellow alert, telling people in most of Delhi and the National Capital Region to stay informed about the bad weather. In some places, heavy to very heavy rain and heavy thunderstorms were predicted.

“There could be a lot of trouble with traffic on the roads.” Water could build up in low-lying places and on roads,” the IMD website said.

An IMD employee said that from 5:30 to 8:30 am., heavy rain fell in Delhi because of strong clouds.

In the 24 hours that finished at 8:30 a.m., 37.1 mm of rain fell at the Safdarjung station, which shows how the weather is in Delhi.

Between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on July 8, 126.1 mm of rain fell in the Capital, making it the wettest July day in 21 years. This caused havoc on the streets and showed that the city wasn’t ready for the storm.

Low-lying areas of the Capital were flooded on July 12 when rising water levels in the Yamuna broke through a landmark that had been there for 45 years and hit record levels. The Yamuna rose to 208.08 metres, which was higher than the old record of 207.49 metres, which was set on September 6, 1978.

On July 14, ITO and Mathura Road were flooded as the army and navy were sent to handle the flooding. On the stretch, things got worse when a drain regulator broke and five of the 32 gates at the barrier along the old ITO bridge got stuck. The overflowing Yamuna water got into one of Delhi’s busy intersections.
